Lunaverse¢ī Records Inc

Lunaverse¢ī Records was created in 2013 with the sole purpose of producing vintage sounding, commercial quality recordings capable of competing with today's top commercial releases. We accomplish this with an organic, family owned and operated approach that begins with 2 inch tape. Lunaverse¢ī does full productions from beginning to end, as well as mixing and mastering. We are also on Apple's approved list of "Mastered for iTunes" providers.

Mastered for iTunes is both a mastering process and distribution format. Have you ever wondered why some songs in the iTunes store are labeled "Mastered for iTunes" and others are not? By purchasing a "Mastered for iTunes" release, you are buying a product that has been mastered, quality-tested and approved by Apple for publication in iTunes. This premium format allows mixing and mastering engineers to publish music in higher fidelity as it was originally intended to be heard. On top of that, it is a strict set of guidelines to prevent distortion when the music file is encoded for distribution on Apple Music and iTunes. In today's world, music tracks are crushed down to tiny little files that are missing a lot of parts, so you can stream and download them quickly and easily. These encoded files are created from files that have already been down-sampled and dithered to 16 bit. A lot of times these 16 bit files are really hot (loud), and create problems for lossy encoders such as Mp3 or the standard iTunes AAC format. These problems include distortion and loss of information. With MFiT, these issues are all prevented. The result is the ability to deliver a 24 bit file to the listener that is designed to sound transparent and musical to human ears. Apple keeps a centralized list of MFiT approved mastering engineers, and labels a release as "Mastered for iTunes" when an approved engineer masters that release. In short, that's us!

Analong vs Digital. What's better? Depends who you ask. At Lunaverse¢ī, we find strengths in both, and prefer to use a combination of the two. We use analog hardware, both vintage and new, as well as the best plugins available to create what we believe is the perfect combination of analog and digital.

The process of writing, recording, mixing, mastering, and finally performing music, is a delicate, tedious and costly process. For our part of the equation, we believe songs are drawings, and production, the coloring of those drawings. Simple as that.. and we love coloring! (though we've been known to draw pictures from time to time). We can start a project from any one of the steps below.

1. Preproduction

It's your best friend. We spend weeks preparing arrangements, specific parts and charts before we ever hit the studio for tracking. This ensures the absolute best possible coloring of the drawing.

2. Tape. Tape. Tape.

We start the recording process by tracking to 2 inch tape at our best kept, secret tracking studio.

3. Vintage. Vintage. Vintage.

Once the tracks have been precisely transferred to digital, we continue the recording process in a digital format, but with a heavy focus on the best vintage equipment to capture any remaining overdubs. Vintage = warm.

4. Mixing

It doesn't take an hour, or a day. We spend whatever time it takes to properly bring the newly colored drawings to life.

5. Mastering

Is it black magic? It sure is, and we have developed a unique formula for reverse engineering top level masters, in order to create.. well.. more top level masters. What about loudness? Depends on the material, but rest assured we can make a master every bit as loud as anything you want, all while paying special attention to retaining that squishy, warm sound achieved on your favorite masters; perhaps of decades past. How? It's a secret.
